I know, I know.... I missed last week. But I was busy! My mom came to visit for a couple days and then I rode with her home to Hiawatha and Luke and I didn't get home until yesterday afternoon. So I've been trying to think of some things to tell you on this week's Word.
1. On Saturday the 16th, I took the wedding photos of Michaela & Tyler in Overland Park. It was a beautiful and exhausting day for me. They were married in A Midwest Premiere event hall and got ready at the Marriott, where we ended up taking all of their couple and group portraits. It was so great having a new venue to explore and to have so many great areas to take advantage of for their photos. I even took a picture of them at the hotel bar! The Marriott has a really beautiful lobby and I'm so excited to finish them to show you!
2. After the wedding, I flew back home to Gardner and changed my clothes as fast as humanly possible and rushed Luke out the door to go to Baldwin City to one of my best friend's Halloween party! Katie and Branner had a really fun costume party and we were both sad that we couldn't stay too long because Luke had to be to work at 6 am the next morning and I had to leave for a shoot in Topeka by 7:30. Ugh. But we did good and pulled together some homemade costumes! I grabbed my Williams Sonoma pink apron, matching oven mitt and some wooden spoons and was a cook. And Luke had his reflective vest and a hard hat for some unknown reason in the closet, so he was a construction worker! Success!
3. The next day, Sunday, I had a REALLY fun senior shoot with Jill in Topeka. Her family is one of my most photographed and I love them like they're my own family. I took her sister Mandy's engagement and wedding photos and then her entire family's portraits. Jill is the second youngest and the youngest is little Whitney, who is only 9, so I have a while until I have another senior shoot in that family but their mom, Lisa, has assured me that we'll have plenty of family photos and weddings and baby shoots too! Yay! After my shoot with Jill, I drove the long 2 1/2 hours to McPherson where I had a family shoot with the Cranford's and then had a special shoot with the newest member of the family, little Ella, who is only 3 weeks old. We had a great time and I've decided that I absolutely LOVE taking newborn photos. So call me! I want to try new things and I have tons of ideas!
4. After the long drive back to Gardner, Luke and I went to the
Kansas City Improv up in Zona Rosa for a show with our friends, Kody (of course), his mom and step-dad (our "Lake" parents) and another couple that we all have a lot of fun with when we're in the Ozarks (coincidentally he is a Missouri state trooper... small world huh!). I have never been to any kind of comedy club and I was a little nervous because I did NOT want to be picked on, but it was soooo much fun! I was crying laughing pretty much the entire time, I loved it! I definitely want to go back soon and I would recommend it to anyone!
5. Monday... I slept. And slept. And took the day off after my long event filled weekend.
6. Like I said earlier, my momma was here to visit last week! She got here on Wednesday evening and I had my really good autumn chowder waiting... yum-o! Then on Thursday we shopped until we quite literally dropped. First, we headed to Legends to go to the Gap Outlet, a.k.a. my favorite place in the world. And wonder of wonders, all pants and sweaters were on sale! I found so many great deals, including a great red sweater that I'll wear for our Rieger family photos that we're taking next month. In the clearance section, I found a $4 jacket! Whoa! After I finally was able to tear myself away from the Gap we went to Home Goods, Pier 1, and Old Navy and stopped for lunch at
Mi Ranchito in Olathe, which is one of the best Mexican restaurants, in my opinion. After lunch, we were so stuffed that we could only make one more stop at Babies R Us to look for some things for my sister and then headed back to Gardner. It was a lot of fun and we had a great day!
7. The next day, mom and I drove up to Hiawatha by way of Weston (one of my favorite places in the entire world) and Atchison, where we of course had to stop in
Nell Hill's. I love that store so much! I walk in and I'm insantly in awe of the amazing decorations and then am just flooded with all these ideas of what I want to do to my house... and then I can't wait until we actually have our own house. Anyway, if you've never been to Nell Hill's, you really need to go! The original store is in Atchison and there is also a location in Kansas City, MO. So go!
8. Friday night, I went to a wine bridal shower for my good friend Brooklyn. It was a lot of fun and it was great to see a lot of my friends who I don't get to see very often since we moved away. Brooklyn is marrying another good friend of ours, Kale, who I actually grew up with. I remember eating Milk Bone dog bones with him at our baby sitter's when we were 5. Their wedding is November 20th and I am actually taking their photos and Luke is an usher. It's going to be a big party and I can't wait!
9. Saturday, my whole family went to the pumpkin patch! My favorite part of fall is going to the pumpkin patch and finding the perfect pumpkin and just being out and enjoying the fall weather. We all had a really great time together and Marcus loved it! He had to find the perfect little pumpkin because he's a "little boy". And I had to find a big pumpkin because I'm a big girl... thanks buddy. Anyway, here are some pictures from our family outing.

10. Sunday I drove some more! I went to Manhattan to take pictures of the adorable Harmon family. They have 2 little girls, Kami and Addie, who were so much fun! Then after the shoot I got to have lunch with my good friend Liz and her little boy August! Liz was a bridesmaid in my wedding and I actually haven't been able to see her since then and August has already changed so much! He is the smiliest little 6 month old! It was so great to be able to catch up and of course, take some pictures of August in his Halloween costume!
11. This week, I'm finally able to spend some time at home and attempt to get caught up with all of my editing. At the moment, I have 11 shoots that I'm working on... whoa. I'm glad to be making some headway in all of that and having tons of photos to post! I'm also working on redesigning my branding and getting ready for the next bridal fair season. It's that magical, busy time of year! But there's a lot of fun things coming down the pike!
12. I'm heading home to Hiawatha, a.k.a. Halloween-town, for Halloween. I'm so excited to our niece and nephews in their costumes. Marcus is going to be a paleontologist, which he can't say so I told him to just say he was a dino digger, Lily is a dressing up as Jessie from Toy Story and baby Ben is going to be a pirate! I can't wait and trust me, I'll have tons of photos to show you! I'll also have pictures from the afternoon kiddie parade and the evening parade. Halloween is definitely a big deal in my hometown and there's a lot that goes on!
13. Did anyone else watch Glee tonight?? It was amazing! They performed songs from Rocky Horror Picture Show! I loved it! And they did the Time Warp dance! If you missed it, you should go watch it on Hulu! Here's the
link.
I think that's all I have for you this week. I promise to be back for this next Wednesday! Really!
